5 Lessons From Nipsey Hussle

Plant Seeds

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.

– Robert Lewis Stevenson

Sow no seeds reap no harvest. Sometimes we just don’t know when or if the seeds we plant will bring any fruit at all. We can work extremely hard and end up with nothing but life lessons. I learned in yoga that it is our duty to sow the seed, but we have no control of the outcome no matter how great the effort we put in. All we can do is our best with what we have and know at the moment. We don’t have any control over how things turn out, but it is still our duty to put our best foot forward. Nipsey explained how he later benefited from seeds he had planted years earlier.

There was a period in time that Nipsey left behind the drug game to focus on his music. Even though he was away from dealing drugs his past caught up to him. The police raided his home and took all of the equipment he used to make and record music. He ended up catching a case because there was a firearm in the house during the raid. With the weight of a case on his shoulders, Nipsey returned to the streets, so he could pay for his lawyer.

In the meantime even though Nipsey wasn’t making any new music, the music he had recorded before returning to the streets was working on his behalf. Nipsey had planted a seed that reached a record executive who eventually signed him to a deal.

Never underestimate the seeds you plant, one day it might be the reason you reap your biggest harvest.

Master Your Energy & Model Successful People

“Your thoughts carry you wherever you want to go. Weak thoughts don’t have the energy to carry you far!”

― Israelmore Ayivor,

Nipsey talks about the energy we put out into the universe returns back to us. It may not return in the same way we put it out there, but we reap in some way what we sow. Nipsey goes on to say, the key to making changes in our life is to “do your best to master your energy and what you put out.”

Steps To Mastering Your Energy

  • Adjust what you thinking.
  • Adjust what you say.
  • Adjust what you do.
  • Model others who are already successful.

Change sounds like an easy thing to do, but it’s challenging to catch your negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. The more you take control of what you are thinking, saying, and doing the more you are able to take control of what you are manifesting in your life.

Invest In Assets That Increase In Value Over Time, Not Lose Value

“I’ve never met Nipsey but I’ve heard his music through my daughters… While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets, and despair, Nipsey saw potential. He saw hope.”

“His choice to invest in that community rather than to ignore it … set an example for young people to follow … [and] is a legacy worthy of celebration… I hope his memory inspires more good work in Crenshaw.”

– Barack Obama

For me the most amazing thing about Nipsey is that he is very popular for the music he made, but most people know him for sharing his knowledge and what he has done in his community. He could have very easily left Compton California, but instead he anchored his vision right in the heart of the city. Even though Nipsey was killed, his vision still lives on, not to mention all the folks he inspired across the world. That inspiration could be the seed needed to spark change. The Marathon Continues.

The Marathon Continues

“The Marathon stands for endurance, staying down, and not quitting. It stands for accepting the ups and downs to whatever game you commit yourself to, and riding it out. That is the reality of success or greatness, is that it comes with a roller coaster ride. Anyone can apply the marathon concept to what they do.”

I hope you continue your marathon. Plug In!
